Transforming Global Operations
To address inefficiencies caused by disconnected test center operations, Siemens Global Test Centers unified its global network through collaboration, modern tools, and digitalization. Our success began with us working together on user problems in the test centers, which created a strong team spirit. This teamwork was essential for centralizing data and improving collaboration across different teams, leading to an accessible system where reports, expert knowledge, and resources are readily available, significantly boosting innovation.

The Story

How we met.

Operating across continents, Siemens global test centers struggled with siloed operations and fragmented processes. To resolve this, the company initiated a global collaboration and digitalization project lead by the creativity lab.
With the help of discovery sprints and digital tools such as Conceptboard, a SharePoint-based repository and an AI chatbot operated by Siemens GPT, test reports, expert directories and synergies are now available across teams. This transformation has dismantled silos and boosted efficiency, aligning the network for future innovation.

In 2024, Siemens brought together global test center teams in Nuremberg to identify pain points and align on a shared goal of improving collaboration and digitalization across sites.

Exploration

The test centers used crowdstorming and role-based exercises to uncover user challenges and inefficiencies in accessing critical resources like test data and expert knowledge. Teams discovered that these bottlenecks not only hindered collaboration but also delayed project timelines and innovation. By engaging stakeholders, they identified key areas for improvement and proposed targeted solutions. This approach laid the groundwork for creating a more streamlined, efficient, and collaborative operational framework.

Creation

Two agile squads executed solutions focused on two key tasks:
  • Squad 1 focused on enhancing transparency and data collection by implementing a SharePoint-based platform that incorporated a chatbot.
  • Squad 2 focused on centralizing access to test reports on a SharePoint-based platform, creating a significantly improved search experience through the strategic use of metadata.

Breakthrough

Execution

The new chatbot logged over 450 uses, helping individuals from different teams across the globe connect by matching them based on their expertise. This collaborative effort, by fostering openness and transparency, aims to reduce testing time and duplication, thereby working towards accelerating project cycles and uniting global teams as a cohesive unit.
